Printing Wireless Using Windows-Based Laptops in TMEC 225
This step-by-step document shows you how to add a printer from the HMS Wireless Quad using a
Windows-based laptop. This documentation is based on running Windows 2000. Please note that these
steps may vary for Windows 98 and Windows XP users. Printing is currently available using only the
HP 8150N printer located in TMEC Rm. 225. If you encounter a problem during installation, please
contact the Student Computing Support Desk by
filling out an online form.
The wireless computer network is available in the TMEC, specific common areas in the Countway
Library, Courtyard Café, and the Vanderbilt Halls. Click here to see a map of

II. Add a Network Printer to Your Laptop
I. Log in to the HMS Wireless Quad
1. Launch a web browser, such as Internet Explorer.
2. Log in to the HMS Wireless Quad to activate your wireless network connection. Use your
eCommons username and case-sensitive password.

II. Add a Network Printer
1. Click on the Start menu, then Settings and then
Printers.
2. Double click the Add Printer icon in the Printers window. Click on the button,
Next.

3. Click the select button, Network Printer. Then click Next.

4. Select the button, Connect to a printer on the Internet or on your intranet, in the
dialog window, Locate Your Printer. Enter in the URL: text
field the following information:
http://134.174.145.10/printers/HPLaserJ8150 /.printer
Click the button, Next.

5. In the window dialog, Enter Network Password, enter the following
information:
Username: med\<your eCommons username>
Password: <your eCommons case-sensitive password>
Click OK.

6. The printer has been installed on your machine when the following icon appears in
your list of printers:

7. Click on Yes or No if you want this printer to be
your default printer. Then click Next. Then click Finish.

8. Test the wireless connection by right clicking on the HP Laserjet 8150 PCL 6 icon in your
Printer list. Click on the button, Print Test Page to see if it prints out a
test page at the 8150 printer in TMEC 225.

*Note: The installation of a network printer needs
to happen only once. However, you must always authenticate to connect to the HMS Wireless Network
before you can do a print job.
