Mobile / PDA - Install AvantGo - Clarinet

This step-by-step document shows you how to install AvantGo Enterprise v5.3 software on your Palm-based personal digital assistant (PDA) and sync to MyCourses through a Clarinet device. If you encounter a problem during installation, please contact the Student Computing Support Desk by filling out an online form .

Step 1: Remove AvantGo Software from Your PDA

Note: For those who have already installed AvantGo Software onto your PDA, Student Computing strongly recommends that you remove previous installations of AvantGo from your PDA. If you have not installed AvantGo onto your PDA, skip this step and move on to Step 2.

1. Turn on your PDA and select the Menu button shown in Figure 1 below:

2. Select Delete... from the App menu. Highlight and delete the AvantGo item. Do not delete the AG Connect item.

Step 2: Prepare AvantGo Software for Your PDA

1. Log into your MyCourses account at http://mycourses.med.harvard.edu.

2. Click on Applications in the upper left corner.

3. Click on Go Mobile in the main frame.

4. Click on AvantGo Enterprise and a window, Mobile Application Delivery will appear.

5. Click on the pull down menu to select a location. Choose the appropriate site at which you are located.

6. Power on and place your PDA in front of the Clarinet infrared device.

7. Go back to the computer and click on the button, Send File to your PDA. Once the file has been received on your PDA, you will be prompted to accept the application. Click Yes.

8. Click on the MobileLink Installer icon on your PDA screen to decompress three .prc files. It will state Ready! when decompression is complete.

Step 3: Configure AvantGo Connect Software for Your PDA

1. Two applications icons, AG Connect and AvantGo, will appear on your PDA screen as below:

2 . Tap the Applications button (Figure 1 above) on your PDA. Tap the AGConnect icon. Click on the Settings... button and the AvantGo Connect Server Settings screen will appear as on the right in Figure 5 below.

Complete the Server Address/Hostname, Port, User Name, and Password fields with the following information:

Server Addr: mymobile.med.harvard.edu
Port: 8092
User Name: [your MyCourses/eCommons username (case-sensitive)]*
Password: [your MyCourses/eCommons password (case-sensitive)]*
Check off the following: Refresh All Contents

*Note: If you are a new user of eCommons/MyCourses or if you do not remember your eCommons/MyCourses username and password, you must go to either eCommons website (http://ecommons.med.harvard.edu/) or MyCourses website (http://mycourses.med.harvard.edu/) to sign up for or find out what is your username and password for the MyCourses portal. Just click on the link, LOGIN PROBLEMS, and follow the instructions.

Step 4: Sync with a Clarinet

Configure PDA Network Preferences
1. Click on the preferences, Prefs, icon in the main window.



2. Click on the menu in the upper right corner and choose Network.



3. Fill out the information with the following:
Service: HMS
User Name: Your MyCourses/eCommons username
Password: Your case-sensitive MyCourses/eCommons password
Connection: IR to PC/Handheld



4. Put your PDA device in front of the clarinet device.



5. Click on the main menu (Home icon) on your PDA device and click on the AG Connect icon.



6. Click on the button, Sync This Server to synchronize to the HMS AvantGo Server.

Step 5: View MyCourses Mobile Site!

1. Tap the Applications icon (Figure 1) on your PDA. Select the AvantGo icon (Figure 2). The HMS MyCourses Mobile channel will appear as below (Figure 8).
